Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism
The unit is the base unit without any cables and zero support from Startech It is a decent value if you can live with the weaknesses. I bought the unit as I have a desktop and a laptop and wanted to run a dual monitor set up with one keyboard and mouse. The unit installs simply enough - make sure you have USB 2.0 A/B cables and ensure you have just stereo cables not the newer three way cables - the microphone jack is separate. The key problem with the unit is Windows 7 Professional doesn't recognize the USB hub in the unit. A separate driver is required and Startech does not provide one. I wrote and called their support and they simply refer you to the Microsoft site - it's an endless circle. Quite simply this is a widely known problem with the Startech USB based products but after multiple web searches,I was not able to find a solution. For now I'm able to use the box to switch one pair of monitors but I have two keyboards and mouse hooked up and I have to wait everytime I switch between the laptop and PC as the box causes an error message to occur on the boxes. The unit looks and feels like it was made by 8th grade kids as a project and it certainly operates like something you'd buy as a kit and put together yourself. I don't know if there is better products out there but would highly recommend if you want a simple, easy to use solution - this is not the answer.
